Whoa! Surprise!

I guess you're curious about organic, free-range music. I'm all too happy to inform you.

These days, people think of music as they do any free commodity.  Lots of us keep a radio or i-pod going all the time.  Music is the background for our lives.  It's a powerful force that acts on many parts of the brain, but know this:  Most of the music you listen to is digitized just past the microphone on its way into the mixing board.  Once converted to digital format it undergoes quantization, re-harmonization and mixing with sources that no real instrument on earth can reproduce.  It's equalized, compressed, packaged and delivered to you almost as widely available as the air you breathe.  While it's technically perfect, it isn't always "real".  A lot of exciting recordings could never be reproduced in a live setting.  And there's a place for "Lab Quality" music.  One can hardly avoid it.  It extrudes, as homogenous as toothpaste, right into your ears.

By way of contrast, live music of any type is far more authentic.  Like any performance art, one specific performance is unique and never to be repeated.  Heck, the musicians even make MISTAKES, and keep going.  The ambience of the room, the mood of the crowd, the interplay between the musicians and the engagement between performer and listener is what I refer to as ORGANIC, FREE-RANGE MUSIC.

So, instead of listening to canned performances, try getting out once in a while to hear live music.  ANY live music will do.  You'll support the arts locally, where it really matters.  You'll help the clubs and venues to keep their programs running.  You'll get a great meal and a wonderful "date" with your significant other.

Get off the couch and make your Saturday an event!  While I hope you'll choose to visit Beginner's Luck, I also hope that you will actively support and seek out ORGANIC, FREE-RANGE music!
